Ancient Moesi

MOESI

  • The common name of Thracian tribes, who inhabited Anatolia with the centre of Troad (Troy) in the 2nd millennium BC. They were known by Homer as skilled warriors.
  • According to the information provided by historians and geographers, these were tribes who inhabited the territories between the Danube River and the Haemus Mons (the Balkan Mountains). The Moesi tenaciously fought for their freedom against the legions of Marcus Crassus, but in 28 BC suffered a defeat. In 15 BC on their territory was established the province of Moesia.
